My newest short story is out now in the latest issue of Wizards In Space Literary Magazine!
“Our New Artifacts” is a science fiction heist tale set on an occupied Earth, one filled with leveled cities and broken people. The story begins after our planet was nearly destroyed during an alien invasion, and it follows a few characters who search through the wreckage of existence in attempt to discover a meaningful pursuit for humanity. I hope that readers enjoy its world-building, mystery, and tension. But I feel that this story is truly about the importance of human connection and hope, as well as the memories we hold dearest in our hearts.
I’ve always enjoyed books and films about alien invasions, and this story started off simply as a concept for what a world occupied by extraterrestrial beings might look like. It quickly evolved from there, and I found that its setting organically drew out a story less about rebellion and more about survival, as well as the effects of loss and—its counterpart—the power of hope.
